Extreme Situation:The rock islands constitute extreme spaces, not only geographically but also politically and this is due to both their size and ground morphology. In such places, ideal conditions for isolation can be created. Proposal: A complex of rock islands in the Aegean constitutes the place on which a centre of Ascetism (the isolation of an individual from the society, materiality and worldliness) is founded. The fundamental concept is based on the construction of a platform which embraces each rock island thus creating a course towards one goal, that of isolation. The platform does not only have a functional character but also symbolic. The continuous horizontal levels determine a space between earth and sky, materialistic and unmaterialistic. * The other FGA & ALUPLAN Prize was given to the UNESCO Grand Prize winning project.
