UIA 2005 Istanbul President of the Congress Prize
LI LING (France) Location:Yueatan Bridge, Beijing, PR of China. Extreme Situation:The poverty of the homeless peasant labourers in the city. Proposal: A temporary use of the highways, which have remained within downtown limits with the growth of the city, is proposed for the sheltering of peasant labourers. The desolete space under some of the ring road viaducts are filled with ropes hung under the structure of viaducts and peasant labourers could use these ropes to weave their own space in the downtown of Beijing when they are compelled to spend the night in the street.
